Quadrathlon Training

Quadrathlon

Quadrathlons as a sport have been around for approximately 20 years now, until quite recently have been a relatively unknown sport, however we have recently seen a significant upsurge in people taking part in Quadrathlons in the UK.

What is a quadrathlon?

A Quadrathlon is a multi-discipline sporting event in which athletes (individuals and teams) participate in a race consisting of four components

  • swiming
  • kayaking
  • cycling
  • running

are all quadrathlons the same?

Like other multi sport events such as triathlons, quadrathlons come in a mixture of distances, some of them are a test of strength and endurance, whilst other races are of shorter distances making them more suitable for people who have taken part in duathlons and triathlons to try something new.

The World Quadrathlon Federation defines that a quadrathlon as:

  1. swimming (2 miles / 3.2 kilometers)
  2. kayaking (12.4 miles / 20 kilometers)
  3. cycling (100 miles / 161 kilometers)
  4. running (26.2 miles / 42 kilometers)

Whereas other events such as The Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon in Scotland is :

  1. swimming (0.8 miles / 1.5 kilometers)
  2. kayaking (7 miles / 11 kilometers)
  3. cycling (34 miles / 54 kilometers)
  4. running (15 miles / 24 kilometers)

Quadrathlon - a breif history

Although as mentioned quadrathlons have been about for approximately 20 years, they really came into their own in 2000 when the British Quadrathlon Association announced there would be a five race National Trophy series.
