Out of all the 4 disciplines required for a quadrathlon, my weakest was swimming (I can swim about 50 meters and I cant tread water).

So swim coaching for me was a must, i first started by reading sites on open water and distance swimming which then lead me to this book : Total Immersion: The Revolutionary Way to Swim Better, Faster and Easier.

After reading the first few chapters I knew that TI swim coaching could be a key part of my quadrathlon training, after consulting the TI website i managed to find a coach just 1hour away from where I live.

The session was £45 for an hour and worth every penny.

I spent the hour doing very little actual swimming, instead we spent the hour working on my breathing and the position of my body in the water (all of which was analysed using underwater video camera).

I will now spend the next few weeks working on these swim drills ready for my next session.

I might even post the video footage if I feel brave enough!

This is the Quadrathlon i plan to take part in this year, i have already started my base training (mainly because i have never taken part in a multi-sport event before).

So whats the challenge?

The Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon is the toughest one day event in Scotland, and at first glance it might not seem so bad, after all a 15 mile run is nothing is it? Think again, look at the terrain the race takes place on, also look at the times from last years event. This really is an all day event!

The Quadrathlon course:

I traveled to the location of the Quadrathlon last year and i have to say its breathtaking (and a little scarey), the course is set in some of the most spectacular and areas of the Scottish Highlands.

The course breaks down as :

Swim – 1.5k (0.8 miles) to North side of Loch Tay

Run/Walk – seven Munro’s (approx 24k or 15 miles)

Kayak – 11k (7 miles) back to Ardtalnaig

Cycle – around Loch Tay 54k (34 miles)

When i first ran a marathon i had to run the best, so i ran the London marathon, now i am doing a Quadrathlon and i believe i am about to take part in the best in the world.
